چکیده

We present a model for the aperiodic variablity of accreting Black Hole Candidates (BHC) along with model light curves. According to the model this variability is the combined outcome of random (Poisson) injection of soft photons near the center of an extended inhomogeneous distribution of hot electrons (similar to those advocated by the ADAF or ADIOS flows) and the stochastic nature of Compton scattering which converts these soft photons into the observed high energy radiation. Thus, the timing properties (PSD, lags, coherence) of the BHC light curves reflect, to a large extent, the properties of the scattering medium (which in this approximation acts as a combination of a linear amplifier/filter) and they can be used to probe its structure, most notably the density profile of the scattering medium. The model accounts well for the observed PSDs and lags and also the reduction in the RMS variability and the increase in the characteristic PSD frequencies with increasing source luminosity. The electron density profiles obtained to date are consistent mainly with those of ADIOS but also with pure ADAF flows.

Modeling The Time Variability of Accreting Compact Sources

We present model light curves for accreting Black Hole Candidates (BHC) based on a recently proposed model for their spectro-temporal properties. According to this model, the observed light curves and aperiodic variability of BHC are due to a series of soft photon injections at random (Poisson) intervals near the compact object and their reprocessing into hard radiation in an extended but non-u...

Temporal and Spectral Properties of Comptonized Radiation and Its Applications

We have found relations between the temporal and spectral properties of radiation Comptonized in an extended atmosphere associated with compact accreting sources. We demonstrate that the fluctuation power spectrum density (PSD) imposes constraints on the atmosphere scale and profile. Furthermore, we indicate that the slope and low frequency break of the PSD are related to the Thomson depth τ0 o...

Comptonization signatures in the rapid aperiodic variability of Galactic Black-Hole Candidates

We investigate the effect of inverse-Compton scattering of flares of soft radiation in different geometries of a hot, Comptonizing region and a colder accretion disk around a solar-mass black hole. The photon-energy dependent light curves, their Fourier transforms, power spectra and Fourier-period dependent time lags of hard photons with respect to softer photons are discussed. On the basis of ...

Variability Characteristics of the Seyfert 1 Galaxy Ngc 3783

We have characterized the energy-dependent X-ray variability properties of the Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 3783 using archival XMM-Newton and Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer data. The high-frequency fluctuation power spectral density function (PSD) slope is consistent with flattening towards higher energies. Light curve cross correlation functions yield no significant lags, but peak coefficients generally...
